Course Aim
Designed to provide learners with the appropriate knowledge of operating hand held applicators.
Course Objectives
- Prepare hand held applicators for use.
- Use product labels to determine uses and potential hazards of pesticides
- Carry out applicator maintenance and checks
- Identify correct cleaning procedures for applicators and personal protective equipment.
- Understand the correct methods of calibration

- Inspect and prepare applicators
- Operating applicators
- Cleaning and storage of applicators
- Calibrating, mixing and measuring of pesticides
- Environmental protection
- Completing and maintaining application records
Training Methods
1 day training. 2 hour assessment per candidate on a separate day.
Who Should Attend?
Anyone who maintains and operates hydraulic nozzle type knapsacks sprayers
Personal Protective Gear Required
- Nitrile rubber gloves. Minimum of 0.5mm thick and 300mm long
- Coveralls (type 5 or 6)
- Wellingtons/Rubber Boots
- Face Shield
Additional Information
- Maximum 6 candidates per course
- 2 Days in duration
- Each candidate must have one passport photo.
- Candidates must have completed the City and Guilds Safe Use of Pesticides course before undertaking this course.
